Michael G. Scales is president of Nyack College, founded in 1882 and Alliance Theological Seminary, founded in 1960. Both institutions of Christian higher education have New York campuses in Rockland County and Manhattan and an extension site in Puerto Rico. Dr. Scales was inaugurated on April 27, 2007. In June 2018, the Nyack/ATS Board of Trustees unanimously extended his role as chief officer for a fifth term.

Prior to assuming the role of its president, Dr. Scales served Nyack College/ATS as Executive Vice President (2000-2003) and Vice President for Advancement (1989-1993). The Gadsen, Alabama native earned his BS (1975) in Bible and theology from Toccoa Falls College, his MA (1978) in humanities from Western Kentucky University, and his Ed.D. (1988) from the University of Georgia.

Dr. Scales pastored Sharon Cumberland Presbyterian Church (1975-1977). Before launching his career in school administration, he served as a juvenile counselor in a community-based treatment 天地棋牌. From 1985 until 1989, he worked for a consulting firm aimed at helping colleges attract students and donors. In 1989, he founded Advantage Marketing, focusing specifically on Christian colleges. He also held roles in admissions and advancement at Toccoa Falls College, North Greenville College, Nyack College, University of Sioux Falls, and The Master’s College and Seminary.

Under the administration of Dr. Scales, an impressive roster of classroom, online or distance education degree programs continue to grow. In addition to offering the institution’s first doctoral degree, the Doctor of Ministry, some of the newest graduate degree programs are the master’s degrees in social work, in childhood education and in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL). More recent undergraduate degree programs are in nursing, biology, criminal justice and gospel music performance.

Dr. Scales spearheaded the relocation of the Nyack New York City campus on Broadway to iconic Battery Park in 2013. The modern structure at 2 Washington Street, surrounded by renowned Manhattan landmarks such as Wall Street, the Freedom Tower, Ellis Island, and New York Harbor, was purchased as the new permanent 天地棋牌 of the city campus, providing nearly 170,000 square feet of custom-designed space.

Dr. Scales is a board member of The Christian & Missionary Alliance Foundation, Inc. (Shell Point Retirement Community), the largest life care community in Florida. He was elected to the Presidents Council of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA), a 15-member panel of university presidents, the chief governing body for NCAA Division II athletics, where he served as a Championships Committee Liaison. He was named the 2013 Paul Harris Fellow by the Nyack Rotary Club, the organization’s highest service recognition, established by Rotary International in 1957 and named after its founder. Other previous leadership positions include his tenure as board secretary for the New York State Commission on Independent Colleges and Universities (cIcu) board of trustees and his role as chair and vice chair of the Council for Christian Colleges & Universities (CCCU) Commission for Advancing Intercultural Competencies.

Married to the former Susan Lynn DeLany for more than four decades, Dr. Scales and his wife are the parents of two daughters and two sons and the grandparents of five grandsons and two granddaughters.

Nyack College was founded in 1882 in New York City by Dr. A. B. Simpson. Student enrollment has reached nearly 2,500 on its New York campuses in Nyack and in Manhattan and at the extension site in San Juan, Puerto Rico. Nyack is a Christian liberal arts college and is ranked by U.S. News and World Report as having one of the most diverse student populations in the nation. Alliance Theological Seminary (ATS) was founded in 1960 and is the official seminary of The Christian and Missionary Alliance.
